Why Won’t Charlie Sign?

It’s been nearly three weeks since the Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 360, aka the Community Renewal Act. Gov. Charlie Crist had said he would sign it into law, yet had not put pen to paper as of Memorial Day weekend.

The St. Petersburg Times details some of the whys and why nots of Crist’s indecision so far. The bill, which was supported by Naiop and other commercial real estate development groups, passed by fairly wide margins in both of Tallahassee’s chambers. But now it’s getting a lot of backlash from environmentalists, local governments and newspaper editorialists.
